Last weekend I opened my 2014 season with a win at west Clare duathlon based in kilkee. After a bad race there last year I was keen to make up for things heading down. The first run was 2 laps of a 2km circuit out to the golf club along the cliff with the wind and hill making things hard. After 300 metres I found myself on the front and set a steady pace and was leading by 40 seconds or so into T1.I increased my lead on the bike as the strong tailwind made it an easy spin to Doonbeg.

After the turnaround it was a different story however and the block headwind meant it was a slow spin back to Kilkee with the hill making it even slower.

Nonetheless I had a comfortable lead built up at this stage and maintained for the last 2km run to finish ahead of Derek Flanagan also of GoTri. The race was well run and a nice one to get back to winning ways…………
