A bigger course for a bigger crowd. This weeks course involved the “sneaky hill” and a 750m swim course
We had 4 waves by ability this week separated by time handicaps
1@0, 2@5mins, 3@7:30mins, 4@8:30 mins, and we think the time gaps were more or less perfect to give everyone a fair chance at overall glory on the night.
The weather gods did not smile as favourably as night one but it did not dampen the enthusiasm of the juniors and a great little finishing tent provided by Ulac meant all could watch in comfort …… as always a huge thank you to the staff at Ulac for all the support, kayaks, emt, safety officer, and the friendly smiles of Mike and Andree 🙂
The splash and dashers along with the short swim/1.5k runners set off first
The seriousness amongst the short swim crew was mixed the screaming commotion of the splashers and dashers, Ray Hickey screaming loudest amongst this new gymnastic form of swim/dive/splash/run/granny crawl stroke and the young ones made 3 laps of the inner pool
Out in the lake the youths were busy learning the secret art of WWF swimming with the re-emergence of the bushwhacker twins with Luke Lucky O Niell way out front
Out of the splashers and dashers we had a young lady called Zoë first out and home – doing the short run and then we had Darragh Dasher Hickey leading the long run home for the wins. huge potential superstars
Oisin O Donoghue screamed home by Mammy came home first boy in the splash and dash short run… gaining more and more confidence each week, he will be beating mammy in the years to come
Luke Lucky O Niell’s fast feet carried him over the run course and the sneaky hill in no time….. maybe we need to let this man race the big boys next week, scare them to real training maybe?
